Laportes Nursery is Ottawa's premier garden centre selling plants, tools and landscaping supplies

Our second generation, family-owned and operated nursery has been a part of Ottawa’s east end community for half a century.

J.A. Laporte’s 50 Year Timeline

Therese and Roger Laporte establish Laporte Nursery by purchasing the land at 1211 Old Montreal Road and building the 1st greenhouse, which is still in operation today.

Therese and Roger begin selling their vegetables and flowers on the Byward Market.

Therese and Roger expand the business by opening an additional location in Blossom Park.

Therese and Roger add another location on St. Joseph Blvd., in Orléans.

Therese and Roger retire, and their son Jean takes ownership of the business. Along with his then-girlfriend Estelle, Jean opens stalls on St. Joseph Blvd., Innes Road and Bank Street.

Estelle and Jean, now married, close all stalls and focus on expanding the garden centre at 1211 Old Montreal Road. They add a store, playground, information booth and several more greenhouses.

Laporte Nursery is Ottawa’s premier garden centre. We take pride in providing customers with top of the line, locally grown plants as well as friendly and knowledgeable service. And with 2,500 varieties of plants, 17 greenhouses and over 200,000 square feet of nursery, and retail store, we’re Eastern Ontario’s largest garden centre.

Our business is still family-owned and operated. Owners Estelle and Jean Laporte are always in-store, Estelle’s sister Elaine is the Manager, and Jean’s sister Christiane works in Sales. Estelle and Jean’s children Nick and Monika also work part-time at the nursery.

“Community” remains one of our core values. Our deep-rooted commitment to community involvement includes year-round donations to individuals, schools, churches, charities, etc. We sponsor many children in local sports teams, and plant trees and flowers at schools for graduating classes and faculty retirements. We also raise funds for local charities with our donut and coffee weekends, donate gift certificates for silent auctions, provide vegetable plants for community gardens, and donate memorial trees and plants.
