J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery is determined to prevent barriers may they be visible or invisible. J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery’s service is its most critical commodity. The ultimate goal of J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery is to meet and surpass customer expectations while ensuring that customers with disabilities have the same opportunity to access our goods and services, in the same place and in a similar way as other customers, unless an alternative measure is necessary to enable the person to access goods or services.

We are committed to ensuring that our goods and services are provided in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities. People with disabilities are not treated as an afterthought or forced to accept lesser service, quality, or convenience. We communicate in an appropriate manner that considers the individual’s disability and accessibility needs.

We maintain that persons with disabilities have an opportunity equal to that given to others to obtain, use and benefit from our goods and services.

We are fully committed to complying with all requirements under the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service.

 

Use of Service Animals and Support Persons

We are committed to welcoming people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal on the parts of our premises that are open to the public and other third parties. We also ensure that all staff, volunteers and others dealing with the public are properly trained in how to interact with people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal.

We are committed to welcoming people with disabilities who are accompanied by a support person. Any person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to enter our premises with his or her support person. At no time will a person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person be prevented from having access to his or her support person while on our premises.

 

Information and Communication

J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery has a history of providing top quality services based upon the transfer of communications and information between our garden centre and its customers. As such, the J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery is committed to accessibility in its communications with clients, as follows:

  • All electronic and printed publications produced by J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery for its customers are available in alternative formats for all disabilities, upon request.
  • When there is a request by a customer with a disability, alternative formats or methods of data collection will be made available at no additional cost, within 10 business days.
  • Documents required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, are available from J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery upon request.

At J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery, we strive to listen carefully and work with our employees and customers with disabilities to try to meet their specific needs. When providing information to, or communicating with, a person with a disability, we will provide, on request, the information and communication in a manner that takes into account the person’s disability.

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services for customers with disabilities, J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery will notify customers promptly by posting a notice which will be displayed in the store on our premises to ensure optimum exposure. This notice will include information about the reason behind the disruption, anticipation of duration, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery will also give notice of the disruption to the public via our website www.laportegardens.com and through our social media accounts. J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery designs and implements information and communication tools with accessibility in mind.

J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery has crafted a statement of commitment to accessibility and has made it available on its website. Upon request, the accessibility standard will be provided in an accessible format that considers the individual’s disability.

 

Feedback Process

J.A. Laporte Flowers and Nursery always strives to meet and surpass customer expectations. Comments on our services regarding how well these expectations are being met are always welcome and appreciated.

Feedback regarding the way J.A. Laporte Flower & Nursery provides its goods and services to people with disabilities can be communicated by mail, email info@laportegardens.com, or verbally at the store. All feedback will be directed to our store manager, Elaine Gauthier. Customers can expect to hear back within 10 business days. Complaints will be addressed according to our organization’s regular complaint management procedures.

 

Employment

Training

Upon being hired as a J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery employee, accessibility training is conducted during our new hire orientation process.

  • Transportation Standard
  • Design of Public Spaces Standard
  • Ontario Human Rights Code, as it pertains to persons with disabilities

J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery trains all employees, management and other individuals who interact with the public or third parties on its behalf on how to interact and communicate with persons with various types of disabilities and how to interact with persons with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person.

Should a person with disabilities be hired, a member of J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery’s hiring staff will provide one on one training, if necessary, in a manner that takes into account the new hire’s disability.

 

Procurement

J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery is conceived in a way that does not restrict people with disabilities. We consider the paths that our members and employees must take when creating displays or when merchandising items.

As we update our establishment, J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery will incorporate accessibility requirements under the IASR when building or redeveloping a public space identified under the Accessibility Standard for the Design Public Spaces.

J.A. Laporte Flowers & Nursery will make new or redeveloped public spaces accessible as required under the Accessibility Standard for the Design of Public Spaces.

 

Modifications to this or other policies

Any policy that does not respect and promote the dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity of people with disabilities will be modified or removed. Our policies are maintained and updated regularly to reflect our practices, employees and best serve our customers.
